That Mapleglo '64 that Atshushi posted pics of looks just about brand new. Unless it has been restored, it probably never left the case. Does anyone else think it looks too new? The CV hasn't faded/yellowed a bit. Looks like it was made last year.

"Ric should do a V68 model with the horseshoe, toaster, big pickguard, checkered binding, walnut headwings, clear tug bar, thin neck profile, vintage case, and the push pull circuit ..."

I think the finish is original, the binding and inlays are somewhat yellowed in the large file Atsushi sent me.

You know, it doesn't cost much or take very long to have your own v68 made, guys.

John,

I thought the same thing, thinking that the pickguard is not original in all probability.

My green RM1999 is very close to this serial number, and has the rest, as do most from this period.

It's cool though, and it has the RM knobs as well..

Dale does do good work Image Those horseshoes are bent aluminum, Dale fabricated them himself! He also sawed a slot into a modern tail piece to replicate the casting void on a true 68. Good craftsmanship...

I just noticed "real horseshoe coming soon", John! To get the authentic 68 "tone" from an original horseshoe, such as available from an appropriate lapsteel, you probably know that you will need to retrofit the tone pot too, and maybe get Sergio to wind you a proper four-pole pickup too. I can't wait to hear how she sounds with the HS Image

I'm listening.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Atsushi, I've sent you a picture of my 1972 4001 (alongside my CS, which now has the correct treble pickup surround on it) . Here is a lower quality one...

Andy: To my eyes, this bass looks cleaner than the NOS mint Fireglo '64 that went for BIG money(who ended up with that, Vince maybe..?) Even that bass that lived in the case for 40 years had a bit of yellowed maple in the center, and was virtually flat new.

It could be original I suppose, but if it is it may be the best one I've ever seen. I'm skeptical....
