Too bad about Massa!
He really should have won the WC.

That would be had Jeff...That one left the building some time ago!rickaddict wrote:Brazil, huh? That could complicate things!
It should have originally come with a 1/2" spaced guard. Andy Winter has a '73 with a 1" spaced guard, but that just didn't happen very often. With that pickup route though, you might be able to use either.

Hehe, that's right, everyone here is really into him. I haven't really followed F1 racing since Ayrton Senna died though, but I suppose I will if/when I become a father. I don't know what happens, but when you get married and have kids you start liking Formula 1. Maybe it's a replacement for sex, I don't know.

Unfortunately, I was watching that race and saw Senna run into that wall.

I spotted the Brasilian electrical fittings in the first photo, but for some reason it didn't register. I'll bet that bass has an interesting story. I watch Jo Soares each evening (I have GLOBO on satellite), and have NEVER seen a Rickenbacker instrument in any of the guest bands, although his bass player plays a nice MusicMan StingRay (which in Brasil costs an arm and two legs...)!PedroCarvalho wrote:Tudo bem, Paul! You?
That's nice you have a house here. Do you come down often?
I live in Sao Paulo, but I have a bunch of friends in Rio, nice place!
So, what's your opinion on the bass, is it worth restoring?

I have a house in Brasil...also, family members in Rio, Natal, Vitoria; friends in the South, too.
Where are you in Brasil? My stepson is coming to the USA for Christmas, from Rio...
Yeah, it's worth restoring, having it done here in the States will save you a lot of time and headaches, and it'll be done to proper specs, too. I know how tough it is finding competent craftsmen in Brasil who are up-to-date. Although there are many luthiers in Sao Paulo, they are not Rick-experienced, especially when in comes to restorations. There is no way to obtain parts, either.
The reason I mention my stepson coming here, is he could possibly bring it with him. I have relatives and friends coming back and forth all year long, every year. They can play mule.

A world championship that was decided in the last few turns. I was actually on the edge of my seat. Too bad for Massa but Hamilton did a good job as well.jps wrote:Too bad about Massa! He really should have won the WC.
Re: Suspicious looking bass
If the race were only 10 laps long, basically, the rain laps, this would have been the most exciting race of the season.

Re: Suspicious looking bass
Well, if your stepson could do that it would be great!
I would only need to know how much that would cost, because it would be kind of hard for me to come up with a lot of money at once. My plan originally was to buy the necessary parts on ebay or something and then when I had everything, get the job done. In that manner, I would spend smaller amounts at a time.
But anyway, let me know how much you think the whole deal would cost and we'll work something out. I definitely want to do it, I only need to know if I can afford it.
There are some good luthiers here, but you're right about the lack of Rick instruments, although you'll see basses much more often than guitars, that's for sure.
About the bass player in Jo's program, I'm not even sure if that's a real Sting Ray, because there was a brazilian brand a few years ago that got a license to build some sort of legal replica of it here, if I'm not mistaken. But Music Mans are not as rare as Rics here, I think. Rickenbacker guitars are even harder to find here. There was some kind of distributor here in the 90's for a short while, but that was it. Now, an used one here costs about twice as much as a new one in the US, or more. I have a 330 and it still attracts a lot of attention. Plus, most people who go on Jo are mainstream commercial artists, and those people tend to stick to the usual brands.
Anyway, my email is xpedrocarvalhox @ gmail . com, so if you prefer to talk business in private, drop me a line. Thanks!
