I also wondered when I first got this bass from Kevin if it was vermillion, but at MARF 3 I had the chance to put it next to a CS and though the board is redder like vermillion, the grain of the wood is different and the color is also not quite the same and I and a few others I asked to look decided it was not vermillion. BUT, it is not like any other bubinga fretboard Rick I've ever seen.

The MG V63 looks like vermillion to me.

I guess the only thing to do is to have everyone on here with a CS send it to me for comparison. It should only take a couple months per bass for me to come to a conclusion.

Another possibility is for Kevin to take out, say 1"x1", chunks of his fingerboard to send to all those with CS basses to compare with, far les costly, postage-wise, this way. As long as Keving numbers the samples he should be able to place them back on the bass with minimal notice.

Great idea, Jeff! Then I can install them back in alternating grain patterns and create a butcher-block fretboard for superior strength and wear resistance. I may patent that!

Wow, I hadn't thought of the ButcherBlockFingerBoard™ concept! Run with that, it would be quite unique.

This V63 doesn't have the striping in the fretboard, but just regular wood look - quite stunning. I did not think the grain of the wood matched the CS we compared to. There was quite a difference in the look, grain, and color of the boards.

Headstock wings are definitely walnut.
