I think this is where the change took place!
Hey hey!
At least my response was relevant! :)

Anyways - I don't understand why people care about conversion rate, it's not only the conversion rate - it's how much you get from the other currency...

Gil,

It's the sudden collapse of currencies that hurts. The Aussie dollar went from US 96 cents to US 65 cents and 106 Yen to 58 Yen over the last four months of '08. Given we can only buy new Rics via Ric Asia (priced in Yen, with no adjustment for the recent USD/Yen move move), the move has put a big dent in the affordability of a new Ric... Alas! :(

My local RIC authorized dealer got a whole bunch of new Rick's in this early fall, including several of the last of the three pickup models. They do not seem to be moving. They have a 620 on that has been on the wall for at least a year (along with several others). They all got a price bump up after the 2007 RIC price increase. They also have quite a few 325 models in stock.

I should probably not be buying but I sold off a few other play things this summer when it looked like my industry was going to collapse under the weight of $140 + barrel of oil.

I had a 660/12 FG on order through a distributor when though him a 660/12 AFG became available. Since one of the "toys" I sold was my 360/12 FG that I never got along with very well (same old story - neck too narrow), I took the plunge as my local place does not carry the 660 and 650 series guitars. And boy, do I LOVE that guitar! I'd flip if RIC would do a 660/12 type neck on a 330/12 or 360/12 body. Wouldn't that be cool?

But I degress..

This week when I was at another guitar store other than my local RIC dealer I asked out of curiosity if they ever got Rickenbacker's come in on trade. Low and behold, they had just got in a very clean 2006 620 JG with all the case candy that had not made it out onto the show room floor yet. They shot me a deal I could not refuse.

I have a 650D on order that is also at way too good a price pass up (if it ever shows up). I would have a hard time saying no to a 660/6 Blue Burst at the right price. However, although the Household Minister of Finance has been indulgent up to now, the Exchequer may just call me on such a maneuver.

Anyway, I figure when we all get though this Rick's are going to scoot on prices and I don't want to be left behind on what I would like to have.

If I am wrong I will be out in the woods eating bark and whipping my *&% with leaves hopefully left with one Rick to play unplugged. :(

My best wishes to those reading this on the front line of this economic mess...

Yeah, I looked at the AU dollar vs US dollar graph, I thought that it simply got back to what it used to be before the US dollar collapsed, but I was wrong - it's lower than it used to be before... (going back to the levels of 1997-8 or so...)
