Absolutely nothing- same gear at the same prices.

Oh wait, the carpets! They're new and the stand has had a makeover too.

As you were.
I was going to stay out of this,,,, but is that anyway to treat your loyal customers? No news for a year, and this is what they come up with? You can call it "funny" or "witty" or whatever you want, I'll call it rude.

I'm more disapointed with the attitude in the message than the message itself.

Sorry, edit this all you want.

The thing that ticks me off (that I'll post here) is that I'll finally be in Anaheim, only 3 weeks too late! :(

So, is there anything to see on a really tight schedule?

Let some of the locals know your schedule and maybe we can arrange a good time.

So therefore, which part of "clearing the backlog" did you not understand???

New models would probably add to the backlog, but I don't see new colors adding to it - Every guitar/bass has to be finished, right? No one wishes to add to the backlog, but it seems like no end is in sight.

Which part of "clearing the backlog" do people not understand? Most likely the part that RIC has been working on the backlog for over three years. The last COY was in 2006, and RIC announced they were stopping that practice due to the backlog. They used to give us updates on the situation in the beginning, but now - nothing.

As I said, I mean no offense, and I totally understand and am sympathetic to RIC...just wake me up when something of interest happens. Forgive me if I'm a little bummed that for 4 years the only news has been discontinuations, exclusive models for other countries, and super-expensive one-offs.

RIC like any company in the guitar business has a bottom line which is bound to influence the introduction of new products. Most of us will have noted that the economy has certainly gone south in a way that has caused many of us to make tough decisions. RIC has always watched things very closely and fortunately this has allowed them to remain in the Unitied States. That the company has remained in the United States has, for many, always been a significant factor in the purchase of a Rickenbacker.

The expectations at NAMM are always high and for some the anticipation begins well in advance of the main event. When our expectations are not met we may feel disappointed, frustrated and irritable. Some of these feelings are noted in the comments within this thread. To feel that we are entitled to a special message from any company in any given year year, however, is unrealistic. That RIC continues to produce fine instruments is something for which most of us are grateful. There will always be new products ahead, but they will be produced by RIC when the time is right for them and not because customers feel an entitlement.

RIC has offered a humourous statement that at the same time sums up their position for this year. As with any humour, check out Jay and Conan these days, the interpretation lies in the emotions and circumstances of the beholder. This Forum has followed RIC and its instruments for more than a decade and with any luck we will carry on this tradition for decades to come. We are with the Company for the long haul and this is not based on announcements based at NAMM.

Thanks goes out to RIC employees and John Hall and family for their willingness to cooperate with us, their participation as they are able and their patience when things get taken too far on the RRF. In keeping with the spirit at the center of the creation of this Forum I would ask that we remind ourselves of why we love these instruments and join in sharing this experience with others. This is truly at the heart of what matters here.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I'll be there the afternoon of Feb 7th through late Tuesday evening Feb 9 for the MD&M West show at the convention center. I'm somewhat open Sunday evening and Monday.

It seems that the NAMM 2010 problem is based in the desires of RIC's loyal customer to ADD to their RIck collections, not merely to purchase their first Rick
.
This is a very unique problem to have, and just adds to the mystique of the products; the currrent product line is being produced to satisfy the demand of the newer customers, whereas the demand for newer and varied products and colors are mostly based in the loyal customers who desire something new, becasue they ALREADY HAVE what's being offered.

It just goes to show what a powerful product a Rickenbacker guitar is, and, like it or not, it's a wonderful position for the company to be in.

Hey, I'm joking - but lets get some perspective here chaps and anyway RIC have been slipping in changes all year - new MID formula, the odd satin finish here and there, 2-piece necks for bass and 600 series etc. On the plus side, the time lost discussing the "grand new announcements" can be spent plugging in and playing the fantastic Rickenbackers that we have, no?

Yes! Forget the guitars, lets talk about carpets.

I prefer a good quality, deep pile wool carpet, probably around the £35 a square metre mark.
As long as you go for a fairly neutral colour you'll get years of wear out of it and they are easy to clean too.
Also, you wont end up looking so last decade, like all those people who fitted horrible cheap laminate flooring throughout their houses when it was all the rage.
A nice good quality hardwood flooring is great too, but you cant beat the comfort, warmth and style of a good carpet. :D

+1 to the comment above. RIC could have conveyed this same message in a much more professional way. If it is an attempt at humour, I find it lacking.

The 'news' from Rickenbacker seems to be that 'you will get what you get and you will damn well like it.'

...at the same prices...

I like that part a lot considering that Fender/Gretsch recently had a pretty steep price increase in the face of the Great Recession.

Dig that marvelous wavy maple flame fret board on that 650C FG!

I wish I could make it mine

Lighten up. I thought RIC's blurb was funny. That's all it was intended to be.

Where's the NAMM photos?
