I'm looking forward to meeting you in person at SCARF. You are welcome to borrow or try out my guitars but I'm not sure if the 1997 will be available. It is currently in Atlanta undergoing some mystery cosmetic surgery. I don't know if it will be back by October 16th. I do have a great 360v64 6 string that ROCKS and a few other you might enjoy.

It sounds like this SCARF will be a bit different than past ones, with more jamming. Very cool but I enjoy the showroom too. now to decide what to bring...

Rich F and I have been coming up with some contingents for the in-between bands jam.

He came up with Contingent 1:
Stones Jumping Jack Flash
Kinks All the Day and All the Night
Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps
TP I Won't Back Down
TP Refugee (which segues into a variation of the jam played from 1982-1991, with a lead guitar solo from me)

Which I approved. I agreed to take on vocal duties for all songs, and I will not be playing guitar on JJF, instead I will treat everyone to my Mick Jagger imitation.

I came up with contingent 2:
Who Can't Explain (this is a call-and-response song, so we need someone other to do those backing vocals)
Beatles A Hard Day's Night (I can take Lennon's part, but someone else will have to do McCartney's bridges)
Dave Clark 5 Any Way You Want It
TP Here Comes My Girl
Byrds Eight Miles High* (I'll sit out of this completely, that song's for GOOD players!)

I'll cover vocals for all songs except *

I've had Collin W in mind for Clapton's solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", haven't seen him post in a while, so I don't know what his thoughts are on this. We need some one (or multiples) to play the incredible McGuinn solo on EMH.

Re Jamming at SCARF

We're getting a few folks to Quarterback different segments of the Jams and come up with song-lists. Kind of trying to put a little organizing into this, -- so that everybody gets a chance to play songs the you like.

With more than 25 Jammers, we have to figure out something...The concept is to have 6 or 7 song mini-sets of some tunes that the attendees can "sign-up" to play. And this way we can rotate Jammers off and on. In theory, everybody gets to play on songs you like ....

We're still putting together lists and getting a few more Quarterbacks enlisted .....

So far we have:

Paulie ---- putting together the 80s and New Wave segments

Scott ---- putting together a couple of segments of 70s tunes

Jake ----- putting toether a couple of segments of tunes from the lengthy Song list that was posted earlier

Skip ----- putting together some Surf and Instrumental tunes

None of these categories/genres is cast in concrete ---- you never know if the 80s contingent will slip in a Eddie Cochran or Elvis Presley number ... or if the 70s contingent will perform Greenday's latest hit. Depends what you folks want to play.

We're still looking for one or two Quarterbacks to put together some 60s stuff, Beatles, etc. and put together a couple more jam segments. Volunteers ?? To paraphrase Lord Kitchener's recruitment poster "YOUR CONFLUENCE NEEDS YOU"


For our overseas friends, Quarterback is the guy on an American football squad who calls the shots out there and gets pummeled unmercifully by the others on the field !!!

I was thinking it might be a good idea for attendees to bookmark or have themselves notified when there's a new post so everyone involved stays up to date on the latest for the confluence.

Oh, and by the way, Guitar Center, Fountain Valley is lending us a kit for the event.

It looks like Mark & I might try to do a set of stuff not normally done on Ricks-REAL Country, 50's Instro, Rockabilly, and some Atkins/Travers picking stuff.
I'd love to QB the Surf/Instro Jam, but I want others to play the leads. Colin-you were great on "Shake & Stomp"-do another one!
Mark hinted that he might bring a rare 2 X 15 Rick Combo amp from the 50's for display.
I'm also trying to get some Steel guys to participate.

Oh-A shout out to those GC Fountain Valley guys! My rockabilly pal, Buddy Dughy turned me on to them. After a day at the Santa Monica Vintage Show looking for a Gretsch, I stopped by and the guy Buddy referred me to fixed me up with my Tennessee Rose at a great price!

Lending a kit, you say? Can they lend us a Fender Vibro King, too?

MORE STUPID QUESTIONS FROM JAKE!

1. Who's bringing what guitars, basses, amps, picks? As long as there's a 21-fret 6-string and a 21-fret 12-string, many picks, and a working vocal mic, I'm ready to roll!
2. Anybody bringing any harmonicas? I don't like blowing in other peoples harmonicas (or trumpets, tubas, clarinets, recorders, saxes, etc), but if there's some disinfectant around, nobody should worry!
3. What kind of food will be served?

You may bring your own if you have one. Personally, I don't care much for harmonicas, but that's just me. I like them about as much as I like . . . banjos. If John Hall shows up, ask him the joke about the banjo left in the unlocked car. . . er, maybe not.

Breakdown is heavily reliant on bass and electric piano for the rhythm, the only rhythm guitar that's played is during the chorus.
