I played a terrible old Univox hollowbody bass last weekend that had a foam mute that you activated by pushing up or down on a lightly-spring-loaded chrome bar in front of the saddles. It worked well (stayed in place where you put it), had a nice effect, and was easy to adjust mid-song. Way easier than this.... I almost never use the Ric mute and get annoyed at the way it interferes with palm muting.

I was going to try the mute last weekend... and then I chickened out at the last minute. :D

Colin, yours and Brian Crisman's avatar are quite similar! I take it a horse is supposed to be photographed from that angle, eh? :lol:

I have used the mute a select few times when recording and it has been pretty cool for select songs. Never live though
