Well, no. Size and style are more like this:
But I just sold that one today, so it'll have to be this one from now on:
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

My eldest brother, "Squier" Ray, is interested in short scale Ricks as well, after seeing one at S.C.A.R.F. this year.IvanMunoz wrote:Cool, could you direct me somewhere where I could get more info on this subject, Thanks.aceonbass wrote:Ivan....RIC actually made a short run of short scale 4003S'(probably 5). There is no reason to ever be bored.

Re: New Bass Concepts / designs
I just wish RIC had the good sense to do with all the 400X series basses what the do with the 4004cii, FLAMED MAPLE! Not a concern for Jetglo, or Midnight Blue, but Fireglo and Mapeglo would really benefit in my opinion, and it's a wonder to me that they don't make sure every transparent finish instrument in maple has at least a flamed veneer. Other things I'd like to see are more options: black binding, checkerboard binding, no binding, blackened hardware, dots, vintage pickup placements, vintage reissue pickups (not aftermarket), short (30.5") or medium (32") scale etc. Not for every bass mind you, the standard would be what it is, but the option to get one that was marginally customized, for whatever the "RIC custom shop" would charge of course. My dream bass is much like a 1999/V63 but with a mid. scale, 22 frets, flamed maple Mapleglo, ebony fretboard and headstock wings (I really like the idea of the really dark wood against the pale maple), a bound neck (NOT body), standard modern sterio output, push/pull cap control, and custom diamond shaped inlays of abalone instead of dots. Dream big or go home, right?

Excellent post, the problem is that RIC already has a backlog of about two years, if I am correct, These special orders would further slow production.
Re: New Bass Concepts / designs
And if you're that set on something and money isn't an option, contact Paul W. Master Rickenbacker Luthier and maybe him and you could work something out.

Well, if we're going to get picky: I think the headstock on the 4004 would be more pleasing to the eye if it were ever so slightly smaller and streamlined, perhaps softer 'round the edges, in keeping with the theme of the fabulous body. Why I don't own one yet is beyond me, BTW.

Ebony? Abalone? You've got us confused with PRS.

Thats taking away the wonderfullness of a Rickenbacker, Headstock consistency.shamustwin wrote:Well, if we're going to get picky: I think the headstock on the 4004 would be more pleasing to the eye if it were ever so slightly smaller and streamlined, perhaps softer 'round the edges, in keeping with the theme of the fabulous body. Oh come on John! You could make that new low cost model that everyone's been whining about. Just get some veneer and glue it down over some MDF and Voilàjohnhall wrote:Bletch! Shudder!
