Just out of curiosity, where are you all finding the tensions of different string sets? I'm using standard Rotosounds (RS66LD) on my '72 4001, have for years decades, haven't noticed any problems. Action is as low as I like it and the bridge isn't bottomed out, so I don't think it's developing negative neck angle. It would be interesting to know the tension on these strings.
@rotosound.co,

I emailed [email protected] as advised after ringing and asking for the tension figure. Larry provided the TI figures; most of the others are on the net. I've never had a problem with my Rotos either, although I wouldn't want to use a heavier set than I do (40-95) on my pre-skunk '72. I know the '68s have very thin necks though and am just going on the advice I've been given, although it may indeed be fine.

I know where you live ... you'll end up with an ASBO for abusing this fine piece of work

Seriously, though, tremendous workmanship, looking forward to seeing the finished results

Cheers Jim. You may not approve of the colour, but nice to know you approve of the principal! :D

We all have our favorites and our passions, in my case an addiction, or affliction to Fireglo

The workmanship and quality of the wood would support a natural clear finish and show the grain of very nicely.

Initially it was going to be solid, or a very dark eggplant (although we had reservations about that) but then Larry came up with the "inserts", which enabled a burst. I then had a eureka moment and that was that.

This is so nice.

A lot of ingeniosity went into this project.

I have so much more respect for these resurections than mint units.

That respect got me into very poor investments but the moral gratification of getting one of these basses back to life worth the expense.

Collectors are a bunch of OCD sufferers anyway.

Except watch collectors... Watches must be unmodified! :D

Beautiful! I'm very partial to MG, but I'd have to go with Jim on this. It's screaming Fireglo to me!
