Well, an interesting event occurred last night. My band lost our good jamspace not long ago, so we've been in my buddy's garage for a little while. The neighbours have taken to stopping by and listening for a bit (they can hear us all over the block) and a bunch of skater kids have been showing for almost every jam. They sit on the sidewalk out front or skate on the street and listen to the whole jam, 2 to 4 hours three times a week. Last night we invited them in to see our gear and talk about whatever. They couldn't get over my 620, I played some stuff on it for them, and they loved it! "Thats a f&$#ing sick guitar, man!" one of them said. So... maybe its time for RIC to take a main stage postition in popular rock again, and with the number of "fans" we're getting just from playing in the garage I think I may be the guy to do it!

Alex, wow...glad to hear it's going well for you and your band.

But, er, uh, I don't want to pour cold water on your obvious enthusiasm, but let me just say that you are likely to discover that there is a considerable distance between impressing some neighborhood skateboard kids who overhear your practices and occupying, "a main stage position in popular rock."

But still, you may be right. Never lose your humility and sense of perspective, and let us know when you've achieved world domination.

Heh heh, thanks for the advice Paul, but I do have SOME sense of the dividing line between fantasy and reality! However, in all seriousness I will make to at least semi-stardom, its not a matter of luck, its just a matter of time.

I finally got a chance to try a 650c this weekend, in San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury Music Center is a great store, btw. 5 ricks in stock, 4 or 5 lutes, and a few sets of !bagpipes! in addition to most major guitar lines.)

The 650 series should put this "rhythm instrument only" myth out to pasture.

Congrats Dave! I really didn't think anyone would get it!! 30 Seconds to Mars has a pretty tight cult following, not many people are familiar with the material. I've seen them a couple times, great live show, but not really about the guitar melody, its all vocals and rhythm. There's a band you'll never see wielding Ric axes. If you get the chance, and you like it loud, go check them out! Of course, they're in the studio now, so its unlikely that they'll be gigging soon.

Based upon what I've read, a 650 would be my ric of choice for leads, a 660/12 for my 12 needs. Someday, ladies and gents, someday.
