Kent: Thanks so much for all your posts here. I don't know where you dig it up - I mean, I've searched youtube for studio footage and I've come up with very little (although the ubiquitous "Hey Bulldog" taping is great).

Those "Get Back" session videos do belie the tension that seems to be the common perception of that period.

So keep up the good work!

Interesting to see a couple of these showing Paul and Stuart, each with his respective bass guitar - I never knew there was any overlap at all (even in the presence of the two guitars - I doubt they actually played with the two basses...).

The Beatles began a 13-week season at the TOP 10 CLUB on April 1, 1961. Stu Sutcliffe had returned to Hamburg two weeks earlier (March 15th). Before the Beatles arrived, Stu's girlfriend Astrid had already combed his hair forward so as to look more like her "Exi" friends.

Soon after arriving in Hamburg, Paul ditched the Rosetti Solid 7 and bought his Hofner..... "I got my Hofner violin bass at the Steinway shop in the town centre. I remember going along and there was this bass which was quite cheap, it cost the German mark equivalent of 30 (pounds) or so - my dad had always hammered into us never to get into debt because we weren't that rich. John and Goerge went easily into debt and got beautiful guitars: John got a Club 40 and George had a Futurama - which is like a Fender copy - and then later Gretsches. Then John got Rickenbackers. They were prepared to use hire purchase credit, but it had been so battered into me I wouldn't risk it. So I bought a cheap guitar. And once I bought it I fell in love with it." Stu's decision to leave the band was already final, but he would sometimes sit in with the band. On June 22, with Paul playing his new Hofner bass and Stu watching (but not playing) the Beatles backed Tony Sheridan on recordings made at the Friedrich-Elbert-Halle for German producer Bert Kaempfert..... the famous "My Bonnie" sessions
