I used to have a friend who had a P-51D Mustang (used to go out to his farm/airstrip to do aerobatics training), there's NOTHING like actually being there when 1500 horsepower of Rolls Royce Merlin screams over your head at about 50 feet!
Used to head out to the Reno Air Races too, that was always fun! Got to help wheel out a P-38 one time from the pit area. Now THAT was impressive to watch when it took off and did a few low altitude maneuvers...

The Woo Hoo drummer has a great sounding snare. And you're right, it could be worse.
