Hi! I usually hang out in the bass section of this forum, but I had a great experience with a 381v69 today. I stopped by my local shop to order my 4001C64 and saw this gorgeous 381v69 on display in Montezuma Brown. Well I played it for a while and fell in love with it! It's got a nice variety of sounds from full mellow to a nice twang very reminiscent of a Tele. The fit & finish were top-notch, but I've come to expect that after owning several Ric basses. Well I pulled out the check book and walked out with it.

I got it home and really liked its sound through my Laney 30w practice amp. It's really great and am really tempted to upgrade my amp once I get back into more playing.

now all I need to do is get my guitar chops back.

Congratulations Ron. I suspect we will see you over here in the Rickenbacker Guitars topic more often. How about a photo?

Hey, Ron--congrats!

I, too, was seduced by the first MB 381V69 I saw and now I own it. I am just discovering the tonal subtleties of this terrific guitar. I'm also using a couple of small amps--a Line 6 Spider II 112 and a Valvetronix AD30-VT. Like you, I'm looking at a nice tube amp as my next purchase!

It's a quirky and fabulous guitar and it always gets comments.

They let you take it home after giving them a cheque (sic), Ron?? Did they do bank checks and all that jazz? Cheques are generally not accepted over here unless you're prepared to wait 3 to 5 days for it to clear before you get the goods (unless you are their best customer, of course). Image

Well done, Ron. Having seen Paul's 381V69, I think MB suits it well, although the turquoise one I saw somewhere took my fancy.

Enjoy!!

I've done a lot of business with this shop and so a check was perfectly acceptable. Besides, I paid for a PRS Custom 22 by check from the same dealer without any problems, so he was eager to do it, Also, it saves him the 2.5% credit card fee.

Ron,

You are now officially, my idol! You got the six string, not the 12 string, right? Well, have a great time with it, it surely is a beauty.

Oh Peter, if Ron bought the 381 six string, here's a picture of it:

Yep, I bought the six string, Ron. I forgot Russ had those photos on his site.

BTW, have you talked to Russ today? Let's just say he did well today. He's probably at Morton's with his wife right now.

Ron, that is one beautiful guitar. I can only presume it sounds as great as it looks. Also, which of your children are saying, "That's going to be mine someday."

I don't even think my kids know I have it yet. I'll have to see how well they take care of me in my golden years before I decide if they get it or any of my other guitars Image.

When I finally had the cash to purchase a Rickenbacker, I was told by a number of people, Good Luck finding one (up here in Toronto). Initially, I hoped to stumble onto a 360 or a 330 or anything with 12-strings. As luck would have it, this JG 381 was sitting there, costing more than I had planned to pay. But hey, when even the wife is encouraging you to buy it, you buy it.

And I must also add my voice to the above chorus in saying that this guitar is fine, fine fine.

I have to give my wife credit. I was playing the v69 tonight on the bridge pickup and she said that it sounded like one of my old Teles. Funny, I thought the same thing when I was trying it out. Looks like I won't be able to sneak too many guitars past her Image.

I always thought my 360V64 JG looked like Batman's guitar - but it's clear to me that the 381V69 in Jetglo is the Dark Knight's guitar!

To the studio, Robin.

Nicely put, I shall refer to it in this manner from this point on.
