I just bought a single control, metal plate bakelite. C863, what ever that means. 1935-37? The pot is shot. What should I replace it with? This poor old fella has had a hard life. The guitar that is. Aloha, DM.

Many prewar Rickys utilized 100 K ohm potentiometers.
I have had some originals come with 250 K and also 500 K.
Seems like whatever was available at the time got installed.
100 K pots will suck too much treble out of the signal ... in my opinion.
250 K pots will be mellow ... and are decent replacements ... especially if there is no tone control ... they bleed off just enough high end to ground ...
500 K pots are what most folks like to use ... if a tone control is present.
I like 1 meg pots ... but I like a bright tone.
Audio taper (log) pots ... not linear taper ... for all of the above ...
Hope this helps ...
