B6 neck width

The width of the neck at the 12th fret on my Bakelite Rick is 2.5 inch. This seems to accomodate the possible addition of a seventh, maybe eighth string. Was that the plan way back then? DM.
They used the same neck for 6, 7 and 8 stringers.
Some folks call the 8 stringers ... "No-Slanters" ... cause the string spacing is so tight.
Check out the "string thru" holes on Prewar Bakelites ...
There are 13 "indents" ... starters for drilling the holes ... for 6, 7, or 8 strings.
I've seen bobbins that also had 13 holes drilled ... for the placement of 6,7 or 8 steel slug pole pieces.
Then there are some seven string bobbins ... that utilize the bobbin mounting screws (#6-32 steel ... not brass) ... for pole pieces 2 and 6.
And of course the ever popular ... six string bobbin ... with two poles "squeezed" in at the ends ... for 8 stringers.
