I saw part of a BeeGees documentary with what looked like a 4001 white or cream played by Maurice Gibb. Unfortunately it was such a short grab I only had time to register the shape not even the track but the clothing looked like late 60's early 70's Film?video was produced by BM & R Gibb

He has played them for years .
I suspect the first reason to play one of these basses is that it is shorter than a Fender and second had a great sound .

Maurice is NOT a tall man .

Most of the short scale basses (this is anything under 32" scale) sound thuddy -exibit A the Gibson EBO .No clarrity in that bass .
The Rick basses delivered .

I always liked the 3001 .......too bad the body was maple ...it was sort of heavy and not comfortable .
The pickup was great and the curcuit ,for passive, was really good.
