Strings for a 5 banger

What kind of strings are you guys using with your 5 stringer??? Any good recommendations??? Jeff Rath, opinions?

get yourself some big old fat slick dead sounding flat wound strings ... naaa just kidding ... and I know some of you guys like your flats ...
I prefer Copley 125-45 nickel wounds ... DR's are better and D'Addario is very good ...
The deal with 5 string basses is you need to get strings where the low B is responsive ...

Where do you buy Copley strings, Jeff??? I have a custom 5 stringer coming...not a Rick however, and I don't want a floppy B string for this and nickel rounds will be easy on the frets.

Copley aren't the best strings ... but they are good and I get a price break because I buy in bulk ... I have 10 basses to keep strung up ... D'Addario strings are better quality and so are DR's ...

I've been using D'Addario nickle wound XL strings for many years and have always been satisfied with their performance. The .130 B string is not floppy.

Here's what NOT to buy...Musician Friend $9.00 strings. I tried them just out of curiousity and I might as well use rope, they've "died" after about three weeks. I usually use DR's or Rotos, but find that the rotos sometimes have a really loose B string.

I like the D'Addarios rounds as well, nice bright sound and they last a long time. Jeff Rath recently hooked me up with a set of Rotos for the 5 string and I like them a lot as well. I tried them once before on another bass and it sounded HORRIBLE. I now believe that was the bass, not the strings!

I like taper wound "B" strings for my Warwick because of the tight space on the tailpiece. Carvin makes a nice set.

Don't laugh....I've tried the Hartke .125 that comes 3 sets to a pack for about $24.00. I must say they hold up very well and sound great. I play out at least twice a week, and probably average about 8-10 gigs per set. They are a tad wider than the RIC strigs, but they seem to work just fine.

I got a bunch of Hartke strings ... the EADG strings were wonderful ... the B in every set was half dead ...
