I was wanting to change the hi gain single coil pickups on my 610 to vintage pickups. Is there any modifications that need to be made to the guitar or do they fit straight in?

Has any one done this to there 610/620 and how did it sound?

Direct replacement, unsolder old pickup, resolder new ones....done.
It'll be quieter and brighter

I've done it:

At the end of the day, I prefer the hi-gains. "quieter and brighter" is a good way to describe the toasters. I'd add "chimey"....

Thanks Robert, I was concerned about the depth of the new pickups in relation to the holes already made for the higains. Have you changed to vintage yourself and do you prefer the vintage?
I play alot of Beatles and old rockin' roll, and have been told vintage is the way to go for this style and achieving this sound.

Thanks John, Nice picture.
I have a 330 12 with the high gain and thought the vintage on the 610 would be a good way to reproduce that 60's sound.

John, what string gauge do you use on your 610s?

Hi Geoff - If you want a '60's sound' then the toasters will do it. I use Thomastick-Infeld JS110's - .010-.014-.018-.023-.033-.044
