Bass string height

Post by syncop8r »

The lowest I can drop the E side of the bridge on my '82 4003s is 3mm between E string and highest fret (before the screw winds out completely). Does this mean the Truss Rods need tightening, and if so, how much?

Sorry, I got dizzy trying to search for posts on this topic.

Also, (probably a silly question, but I haven't changed strings since 1995!!!) - What is the correct way to wind the strings onto the tuners?
Do you wind above and below the start bit, or just above? How many windings is ideal? Do you poke the end into the hole first (after guessing where to cut it?)
I can't remember. How embarrassing...
mmm...sacrilicious
