I notice from the April 1, 2005 price list that the four string bass strings have been designated as a "discontinued item, remaing stock only" item.

I am wondering what the new line of Rickenbacker bass strings will be like and how they will differ from the currently available strings installed at the factory.

Perhaps Mr. Hall or Kenny will be able to comment on this.

I really liked the Rickenbacker Bass strings and simply hope the new ones will be even better !!!

Yes that is indeed the case, the four string round wound nickel bass 45-105 set is still available. Thanks for pointing this out Bob.

Can I get Rickenbacker four string sets easily in the UK?

Hi Tim, Welcome to the forum! Im down in Plymouth! The answer to your question is yes but only from Rosetti who distribute rickenbacker here in the UK http://www.rosetti.co.uk or from http://www.ricsrus.com/ Maybe Henny will chime in at some point, he might know another supplier!

Warren is spot-on. I got a set from Rosetti last year (had to wait 4 weeks). I got a couple of sets from 'ricsrus' this year (had to wait 2 days!)

Thank you both for the info. What makes you both such devotees of the Rick strings?. I'm new to the 4003, and just used the same strings that I used on the Fender Jazz - Elites - they sound OK but feel "wrong" - if that makes any sense!
What's the tension / sound / feel of the Rick strings like?

Ric strings are a 'non-standard' gauge :-
45-55-75-105

I've tried Rotosounds, Elites, Elixers, but none seem to feel/sound as good on my 4003 as the original Ric strings. Hey, if they are what John H fits, they are the ones for me !!

Hi tim - i tried a set of Elites once on my 4003, sound good but are very stiff for their gauge.

If you havent done so, try a set of Rotosounds - they are lower tension for the same guage.

The rick strings are just like any average nickel strings, ie GHS, Ernie ball etc, but the A and D strings are an abnormally light guage that i personally find unplayable.

Actually they have improved them a lot- the packets are now treated to prevent corrosion. All the sets i have bought since they changed the packs have been wonderful, tho out there i guess the strings on sale may still be of the old batch.
