now that I've "converted" my 4003S/5 to pseudo horseshoe looks-what difference, if any, is there between the horseshoe p'ups vs the standard. Irrespective of the two h/s pieces that is.
Haven't been able to determain if my sound has changed-should've made a recording...

I have no idea ,sorry ...this is a newer product and in the Pacific Northwest of the USA ...I have never seen one of these .
Ricks do not seem to have the selling power in my neck of the woods ,so to see one of these I need to go to another part of the country ...and to fly to Houston Texas ,and go to MARS Music just to see / hear a Rick 5 string bass ....well I'll have to wait until I get a reason to go there .
Now specifically ,The high gain pickup has a rubber/ceramic magnet UNDER the coil and the horseshoe has ALNICO magnet polepieces (similar to Fender -sorry for using the F word) the coil windings are most likely exactly the same ,polepieces the same spacing and the mounting screw identical .
As the polepieces are more reactive to the string ,I'd venture to guess that the new pickup is crisper ,and is more sensitive on attack .
The original was smoother ,but did not throw the strings out of tune as you were using a tuner (ie;giving a clearer 'picture' to read)
