Met up with Darren Trott (another forum member) yesterday for a bit of a jam, few beers and a chat. We had a great time and thought some pictures would be in order:

Howard...this is kind of non-Ric(over very much so) related but my dearest and oldest friend is bonkers over Midnight Oil and anyhing associated with them...He loves Aussies...and the music coming from there. He sent me a CD of Ghostwriters, part of the old MO. Don't know if you've heard it but it is really good. Anyway, I'm sure if he were here, he'd say hey.
Call this my drivel but had to put his words out.

Haven't heard the CD Stan but there's a CD and DVD out called '20000 WATT RSL' and it rocks!!!

Heaps of live stuff, interviews, etc.

The Oils are a great outfit!! I wonder about Peter Garrett (ex-frontman) sometimes, though...........





I'm thinking he modelled himself on Paul Wilczynski!!

Yeah, you could be right....but the picture of Garrett isn't as blurred, LOL.
And I'm sure my friend already has the CD/DVD of which you speak.
Do you wonder about Peter an his political stance. being the elected official he is now, or just in general?

Well, I never knew. Found a quote on an ABC site:

'.....A call to Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie (who works his musical magic on four tracks here) then led to another Oil-man, guitarist Martin Rotsey, who makes his Rickenbacker chime like a church bell on the opener, “Hello the End”, and “Light is On”.'

I was referring to his stage appearance, Stan. It's always looked to me like he's got 240 volts up his bum!!

I admire him for his stances on matters of conservation and the environment in general. His entry into politics was a bit of a joke in my mind because to fall into line with Labour Party policies he had to compromise some of the things he had very strong opinions on prior to that.

Guess that's part of the nature of politics, eh?

I don't think I am imagining it but I know I've seen him with the 360F on at least one Midnight Oil video but can't recall which one. I wasn't exactly a large MO fan.

I'll see if I can locate it.

I think my friend saw his bid into the political arena pretty much the same way, Howard....

Jeez. I go out to dinner and off-list or a few hours, and miss some timely stuff...

Howard, your long-distance radar is uncanny.

I lost all my hair due to stress (my dear second wife nearly died--twice in two weeks) in mid-1983. Although she recovered and we've both moved on, my hair never did recover. You can imagine the adjustment I went through. I was pretty depressed for a year or two. One Friday evening, I was sitting in a restaurant in Huntington Beach, California, and a pair of young cuties came up and asked me, giggling, for my autograph.

Yep, they thought I was Mr. Garrett. MO was in town and they had just seen them the night before. I demurred (not too quick on my feet then...) and finished my meal, and headed for a record store. I found "Diesel and Dust" and while the resemblance is there, it was an awful dim restaurant...

Peter is 4" taller than I and probably 20 pounds heavier. But my readjustment to a hairless demeanor was helped in a huge way by the comparison with Peter.

Now, 20 years later, some of my students (who weren't even born then, in some cases!) comment on the resemblance.
