I saw this on line and called the store. They said there were no issues with it as far as originality and playability go, but I'd like a second opinion. Does anyone here any obvious issues here? This is a late 73 4001 and I'm interested in it as a player. I've given up on my quest for an earlier version. It's amazing what checkered binding and MOP inlays do to the value

oooo

i had a 73 IDENTICAL to that one, cept mine had the toaster neck pickup.
As a player? well the frets were very small, which i personally didnt like, the grover tuners are a bit crummy, mine didnt hold the tuning that well, and the intonation was bad, the saddles had to be all the way back
cool as hell tho

Yep... my first Ric was like that, late '73, except mine had belt buckle rash on the back, and of course the traditional pickguard crack above the neck pickup.
Unlike Owen I liked the frets on mine, the Grovers did their job, intonation was fine, the neck was straight with Roto's... but it had the cap and I didn't know why the sound was so thin. So eventually I sold it.

It looks very nice to me, apart from it not being a lefty of course!

Ron, That one is in a hell of a lot better shape than the one I had briefly. Depending on the price, I would wait for your dream bass with the MOP inlays and the checkered binding. One will eventually come along Ron. Try advertising for one on VG's website. It's free.
Good luck.

That's a nice bass, I had a 75 that was identical to that except it was fireglo and I still miss it. I'd snap it up if the price is reasonable. Mine was spotless except for one little dent on the small cutaway tip. (which I did, grrr)

It will have the old profile flat neck, some people love them and some don't.
