....Hey kids....thought I'd mention....www.stewmac.com has some great cream banjo buttons that fit wonderfully on the JT copy bass...Also...one can remove (must be done carefully or tailpiece will snap!) the squiggly on the tailpiece. Ive also had the front headstock logo painted over and replaced that with a hofner logo....Ive also Darkened the pickgaurds slightly with some dark oil finish.....just a few things to make your bass seem more like the real thing.....

Have you replace the knobs, painted the switches, and dyed the bridge yet?

Id like to replace the bridge alltogether and I will be painting the switches soon. I was going to replace the knobs but I got frightened when I saw that they "didnt fit hofner copies" on northcoast music.com

I bought a Hofner...it was easier.

maybe so....but talk to me in 30 years and we will see which one has neck problems and which one has 1000$ more dollars.......btw I'd love to get one, and I will some day......

I also converted a Turser. I changed the knobs,painted the headstock and added a raised logo. It looks pretty good. This is my first post on this site. I have been reading the posts for weeks. I have to say it it great.. I have been thinking about buying a RIC bass, but would like to see/try one first. I have been playing a Hofner for years and am not sure how a Ric bass compare in size and feel. I know how good they sound.

Welcome Ed. Feel free to post your question about the difference in feel between the Hofner and the Rickenbacker under the Rickenbacker Basses topic as well. "It won't be long" before you get a response. It is a great question.

I'll have to check in on that one about the Ric and Hofner differences. I do have a buddy who has a 3000 Ric though.
I started playing bass in the early seventies and played bass in exactly two bands. In fact they were the first two bands that I played in that made money.
I started playing guitar when I was offered the lead spot in a horn based Chicago style band with other rock tunes of the day thrown in. But I've always kept that old bass that I used back when. It was a pre seventies Violin style bass.
I had a Kustom guitar thats pretty close to a Ric back then.
So now I have a Ric 360. Since I'm not still a bass player I got a Rogue and modded it. For the prices that Hofners went for in the sixties and early seventies I should have gotten one back then but I missed the boat on that one. I don't think it would be worth all that cash for me to have the real thing now.
I still play guitar and keys more than bass. But I do get out the Voilin shapes from time to time.
