Can anyone from New Zealand or Australia comment on the ReelinandaRockin 2002 tour? Has the tour group landed yet?

One of the effects of this tour seems to be that the artists who are appearing without their normal backing bands, appear to have, either deliberately or otherwise, split up their respective groups.
I am told that this applies to at least Mike Pender and Gerry and is the result of them leaving the groups behind - and more relevantly for the members - unpaid, whilst their leaders go on this tour.
Last night at Loughborough (great evening by the way), after The Searchers set finished at about 12.30 a.m., two "former" members of these groups performed as a duo using backing tapes. As you would expect, they were very good, and whilst I didn't get the chance to speak with them, the word was that they had effectively left their former bands. Of course, when their leaders return and possibly offer them more work, things might change.

Could Gary expand on which former members, were they from the Pacemakers or MP'S Searchers.

Gery seems to form "New Pacemakers" about every two or three years, excluding Andy Cairns, Bassist who seems to have been with Gerry for a number of years now.

Barry Cowell and Steve Carlisle have been with MP since the start, although he's changed guitarist three times now.

The duo were the Keyboard player (Tony?) and the left-handed guitarist (Steve?). Steve also deputised in MPS at Portsmouth Guildhall during the tour with Gerry/Fortunes/Merseybeats before Kevin took over on a permanent basis. Tony and Steve previously played together in the Electrix backing Brian Poole.

Gary: I feel badly for those musicians who have backed up "The Stars" over the years only to find themseleves on the short end of the stick. I guess this speaks to the fiscal aspect of the business, however, it hardly seems fair to have these artists on hold. This type of arrangement hardly fosters group cohesion.

Before conclusions are drawn, I think it should be noted, based on Tim's amswer that these two inviduals were not permanent members of the respective bands, as I understand it.

Also certainly in MP's case he has provided 16 years consistent work for the two people I mention. How many of us are guaranteed jobs for life these days

I have learned today of the backing group and the backing singers on the ReelinandaRockin 2002 Tour. They are:

Eric Wight (Keyboards & Musical Director)
Martin Wild (Drums & Percussion)
Tim Rose (Guitar)
Julian Webster Greaves (Saxophone, Harmonica & Flute)
Julian Bury (Piano, Bass & Guitar)

Backing Vocals were by two of the Nolan Sisters (Maureen & Anne).

There is apparently a new 60s magazine being launched, and publicised by flyers left at these concerts.

The name of the magazine is either "And The Beat Goes On And On" or "And The Beat Still Goes On", as I've been informed there are two with that approximate name!

Has anyone seen anything at R&R shows for either?

I have just learned unofficially that Mike Pender will be touring again with MIKE PENDER'S SEARCHERS in May 2002. Perhaps we will get the official word from the MPS Fan Club or Kevin Healey.

Roy Clough has reviewed the ReelinandaRockin 2002 Tour from a different perspective.

In Roy Clough's review of the ReelinandaRockin 2002 Tour he writes Quote:I would recommend the show mainly because there has been an attempt to come up with a different idea in presentation, rather than one act after another coming on and going through their set. I am wondering Roy if you consider that this type of "solo" format may take over the more conventional one in which single groups perform or in which groups perform with their usual backup members. As a follow-up question, I understand that their was a CD, recorded in the studio, of the set list to which you refer. I am wondering what you think of it or what others have said about it.
