Another idiot eBay seller.

Also, I don't give him/her any points for the bogus "Ask The Appraiser" nonsense, either. The "appraiser" is "Scott Grandstaff" which sounds like a porn star's name to me, and it's obvious to us Forumites that the "appraiser" is absolutely clueless.

How convenient that only the lower half of the jackplate is shown:

I e-mailed him asking about the letters on top of the jack plate and told him NOT the numbers, we'll see what happens. Actually I think it's one of the very rare 1950 4001's.

Heheheh ... me too, and expained his appraisal was inaccurate.

It's maybe an "M" , I'd say maybe May or June looks like it's got checky binding, hard to tell from the small pics, but no horshoe, and no split tail, and no full width MOP's.

Also the TRC says 4001, I thought that 4001 was added after the release of the 4003, which would make this an 80's era 4001 !!!!!

No Firerglo either !!!!!!!
Hmmmmmm..................... Fireglo !!!!

As far as I know, RIC put the model numbers on the TRC's under or above the "Made In USA" which was silk screened on the '75 and older ones and stamped on the '76 and newer TRC's.

That bing the case it may not then by a 73, course, the TRC and the jackplate maybe later additions to the body.

Here's the response I got when I sent him my boilerplate email on how to date a Rickenbacker:

This does not have a serial numbe on it-------

He just needed to know where to look. I just got done dating it for him and he's revised the auction.

He obviously pulled the image of the jack plate, I hadn't seen it when I emailed him.

As there IS a serial number on it, just not the one he would like, it would seem there is some attempt at fraud here, not just an unenlightened individual who himself got duped.

Guess I was wrong.

Still odd that he sent me that email after pulling the image of the serial number.

He got an e-mail from us as well, suggesting a correct range of dates, the procedure to accurate date it, and a suggestion that he get his money back from the so-called appraiser.
