4001C64 MapleGlow question?

My naive question is basically for John Hall.
I would like to buy another C64 MG, but I don't understand why the maple selected for this vintage bass isn't hand selected for the nicest wood grain finish. I haven't to date seen one with really nice grain on the body, while 4003's I've seen have beautiful wood grain on the bodies.
I would think for the extra money, besides the vintage p/u's and bridge the body wood grain would be choice, as in this example.Image

It all comes from the same woodpile, so it's the luck of the draw.

Actually any genuine vintage is statistically likely not to have as nice wood grain as you get now as the quality has never been better. It would therefore be somewhat inauthentic for the wood to be more select on a vintage reissue.
