NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG W/ THAT...Sorry. a bit off topic, but I'm looking for a good vocal/ mix compressor that doesn't create a lot of sibilance. i hate to get into the whole sidechain/de-esser thing. What did the Fabs use? Also don't want to pay thousands...

They Commonly used a Fairchild Tube compressor....but good luck finding that for cheap. If your using protools, there is a good plugin available to emulate it

The Joe Meek series compressors were originally designed to sound like the old tube compressors used at EMI Abbey Road.
I think they sound great and fit most home studio pocket books.

Karl,
I saw that the joemeeks three q "half rack" compressor runs street at $200. If one is playing essentially at home (to record or just play), could it be a solution versus, say dropping $215 on a great compressor pedal like the Jangle Box ?
Thanks in advance

David, if the JOEMEEK is stereo, I'll check it out, as it must be for a stereo mix situation. I don't think the janglebox is stereo, is it? Thanks, Steve

Hmmm. What are you guys smokin'? I said it needs to be stereo to do a MIX through. I don't want a stomp box. Thanks anyway (i think). BTW, I thought the Harvey Firestein response was hilarious! Thumbs up!

No, JangleBox is not stereo. A guy in France or Belgium -- I forget -- bought a JB for vocal compression, and told me he really likes it. In all honesty though, I really think it's best as a guitar compressor.
