I was in Sam Ash in Paramus, NJ a couple of days ago and was surprised to see a brand new C64 FG hanging on the wall. Oddly, it looked as though someone had taken a 2x4 and whacked the area with the knobs, controls and pu switch. These were all somewhat pushed in and the pickguard was smashed and cracked all around. There was no setup to speak of, and the neck was quite underbowed and virtually unplayable. It was also missing the TRC plate completely. The strings were dead (and not original I believe) and this thing was a mess. Price tag: $2119.00

I asked the drone what was the story and he said that it came from the factory like that. WHAA??! I asked him what they were gonna do with it and he said they would just sell it at a big discount. "Ok, how much?" I say. Then he says, "dude, you don't want to buy this, the neck is all warped and messed up!" Has anyone seen this piece? Just curious what you make of it...

If it came from the factory like that, shouldn't it have gone back?

There was a C64 TRC on Ebay now too long ago. I wonder if that's where it came from?

I saw that one also. Funny thing is that it was in the NYC store around Christmas time and I had asked about it. I was quite surprised when they offered no discount for the damage. I can't beleive that they haven't set it up properly and replaced the pickguard and TRC.

Sounds like UPS strikes again. But it's strange that they didn't file a claim on it to get it repaired, unless they didn't report it to UPS soon enough or something.

A while back I remember seeing one of those "caught on tape" videos on tv, where the delivery guy was jumping on a package. I don't remember if it was UPS. It's an amusing video, unless it's your package.
I wonder if I can get this damage repaired well by someone on the "O.C." area.

When I worked in Antarctica, New Zealand customs began opening all our mail as it passed through their 'jurisdiction'...packages, first class letters, the works. We were more than a little upset as, in addition to the invasion of privacy, they would routinely throw everything back into the boxes loose, minus packing material. I had a nice camera utterly demolished...one of many similar stories. It occurred to us that as NZ was involved in several treaties with us, including international postal agreements, laws were being ignored and we were getting hosed. This was all being done to keep 'dangerous' drugs from being smuggled in...meanwhile, the Navy made sure everyone had enough alcohol to render their neocortexes (neocortices? see what it does to you?) as smooth as babies' bottoms on a nightly basis. We stayed mad at the Kiwis for a while, until it came out that it wasn't their idea...they had been pressured to violate our rights by our own State Department. I think about that time a lot these days, as the CIA routinely 'renditions' people overseas to have Saddam wannabes do their 'inquiring' for them.

By the way, Agplate, I used to work (northern hemisphere) summers in Paramus in the early eighties when ITT had the 'Ice' contract...stayed in the Holiday Inn {the Treadway Inn now, I think) in the parking lot of the Paramus Mall...ate more breakfasts at the Tom Sawyer diner than I care to recall...loved that short bus ride into Fun City every night and weekend, though.

I Bought a chris squire reissue on time and when i got it it had been dropped or thrown from a preety good distance . It had hit so hard that both of the body wings were seperated from the neck . cool huh . And heres the real good part . U.P.S. was not going to pay the insurance claim !Many threats of great bodily harm later i managed to get them to do it but it took 6 months to get the check . My advice Kiddies . Its better to drive it there yourself than us U.P.S.

Nate: I can honestly say I never met an evil Kiwi...y'all are some of the coolest people on earth...(ok, I did stand in the chow line in McMurdo behind Piggy Muldoon once...but he was with Edmund Hillary, and that more than made up for it). My story was meant to describe how a certain 'evil empire' leans on otherwise decent folks around the world and gets them to do 'the dirty work' for them.

Conversely, I can't say enough about the courage and right-thinking of New Zealanders when they declared themselves a nuclear-free zone and left ANZUS as a result...that and being the first nation on earth to give women the right to vote makes you a shining example to the rest of the 'civilized' world. I still wear my NZ NORML t-shirt with pride...
