Just scanned through the dials and landed on CMT (Country Music Television). Mary Chapin Carpenter was in concert playing a RIC 620 with black trim, but the interesting thing was the color. It was a midnight blue with a fireglo in the middle of the body. Kind of a blueglo. Anyone else see this?

Interesting color, I didn't know they offered a blueglo like that. I always thought that Midnite Blue was a straight color.

Actually, I had heard of Mary Chapin's "blueglo" 620, but figured it was midnight blue instead of the azure I personally prefer.

However, now you've got me "wondering" how much difference there really is between midnight blue and azureglo. Anybody know?

I have heard the difference is that Azureglo is a flat blue color (with the standard RIC gloss finish) and Midnite Blue has a sparkly finish to it similar to Turquoise. That said, it looked to me that Mary Chapin Carpenter's was a midnite blu-glo on CMT. I wonder if that was a one-off made for.

Mike Parks of The Music Connection indicated to me in a phone call earlier this week that Mary Chapin's blueburst 620 is a one-off.

Midnite blue is darker than Azureglo,and I would say is in the "metallic" family of finishes.
I've only seen a handful of Azureglos over the years, and from memory, I think the coloring of them was consistent, unlike Burgundyglo.

Midnight blue is definitely in the metallic family. It is a dark clear blue over silver as you can see in these two pictures

where the blue has worn through to the silver, and past that to the maple.

I want a blu-glo with black logo & scratch board. I needed a ric fix at work and remembered she had so rics. The first time I looked at them, I had not notices that they were so exquisite (the blue on black works well with the blu-glo).

OK, so I'm many months behind you guy's but you'll love this. Any fans of Mary CC, will know she's played a standard 6 and 12 string 620 in fireglo for years.
When it was time to replace those well used 620's Rickenbacker produced 4 new one's as she wanted, two 6 string, two 12 string. It's standard 620, sprayed in blueburst (the factory name not mine),a pair of vintage pickups, chrome hardware except the guards and nameplate are black and checker binding finishes the piece off as on the 660. Of the four produced Mary still has three, one was given to an LA DJ as a present.

Or the next signature series, a nice limited run of MCC 620's would go down a storm, and carry that same limited feel of the Hoffs, there'd be nothing quite like it.

By the way, MCC also has a 700C Comstock in fireglo but doesn't use it live.

I haven't seen an Azureglo in person for years, they used to be fairly common during the 70's from what I remember, they were lighter than Midnight Blue, a really nice color, I really liked them, I had a line on one a few years ago, but was sold before I had a chance to grab it.

Bob-- I'm also a fan of Azureglo and would love to see it become a permanent finish option again. And the more I see Midnight Blue, the better I like it, especially as the Blueburst variation shown in the MCC pic. It would be great if Azureglo was available in a burst pattern also. I remember campaigning for this in some other threads here.

If RIC ever decided to do an MCC signature model in that trademark blueburst, I think I would order one in a heartbeat.... If anyone is deserving of a signature model, surely she is! And what a beautiful guitar!
