Protective Film on Guitars

I saw in a guitar magazine an advertisement for a company that produced plastic film sheets that could be attached to the back of guitars to reduce scratches, buckle rash, etc. They attached by pure adhesion, as no glue was needed. Kind of like the vinyl clings that adorn windows during holidays. After asking on another board for people's opinions of this idea, I was recommended 6mm thick mylar plastic. Mark, have you ever done this or seen it done to guitars and can you recommend or discourage the use of it. It sounds great, and the only problem I could imagine is a chemical reaction with the finish. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
BTW, if it matter, it is going on a 360/12CW, and it just occured to me that is might reduce the accoustic properties of the guitart slightly.

I agree with the chemical reaction , plus the difference in UV fading .
I have seen old pre CBS Fender Jazzmasters and Jaguars with the protective backing cover that was taken off after years of the thing being on it ... you get two tone paint ...EVEN on sunburst finishes !
My feeling is ...leave the Elvis Presley belts at home and wear a belt off to the side , remove the rivots from Levi pants and play .

It's funny you mention Levi jeans Mark. I haven't bought a pair of Levi jeans in 25 years because of their rivots and what they do to the back of a guitar. Nothing but Wranglers and Lees for me with their flat rivots!

Peter Tork of the Monkees led the pack here. He almost always had his buckle to the side on the Tv show.

Same here, Corey. PLUS-- I never wear a belt anymore, and I never wear a shirt with buttons when I'm playing. I take no chances in wearing ANYTHING that could even remotely scar up one of my instruments.
