Revolver songs - a tip

Hey folks--
After years of making my fingers bend all sorts of uncomfortable directions, I've realized that a great way to play "She Said She Said" and "Dr. Robert" (both of which are in weird keys, Bb and Bmaj, respectively) is -- duh -- with a capo! Capo at the 3rd fret and play "She Said" in G, and capo at the 2nd and start on G7 for "Dr. Robert." Try it, it rocks!
Pardon my outburst.
Rock-N-Roll--

Kenny: I'll try that out--thanks!! Since you bring up 'Dr. Robert', I think John used his 325 on the track...it sounds like it, anyway...

Good for you, Kenny. It's my opinion that everybody should get a capo with their first guitar. It's a great little piece of the puzzle.

Comments:
I don't know about the 325 on that track, IMHO; the whole record sounds like Casinos to me, and I thought Lennon had pretty much put the Rics under the bed at that point. Who knows?
Also, regarding capos, I have been a big fan of the capo since I started playing, and as we know, Mr. Lennon would have probably chosen the simplest way to write and/or play his songs, so it makes sense. Again, who knows.

Gentlemen,
Speaking of capos, I can remember seeing a picture of Sir Paul with a capo...on his Hofner!
Being a fan of the zero fret, it makes sense that Sir Paul would do this. Sorry I don't have a file of it. The photo in question appears to have been taken around the time of Revolver.
Regards.

I think the whole LP/CD is Casino and SG
I don't hear one Rick six string guitar ...bass Definately .
This is well reported that Paul started the PaperBack Writer session with the 4001 bass , the rst of the LP/CD sound like that to me .

I agree with Mark, most likely the Casinos and the SG and also probably the Sonic Blue Fender Strats. These are clearly illustrated in Robert Freeman's photos of that period. Also I don't recall Paul using a capo on the Hofner, but I've seen several photos of the 4001 with a capo on it during the 'Rubber Soul' sessions.

Mark: What do you think John used on 'Dr. Robert'?? If not the 325 then maybe the strat??
It just sounds too thin for a Casino and has sort-of a sound you'd think of with a guitar that has a 5-postion selector switch. I can get that sound out of a 325.....or a F***** with the 5 way switch.

"Dr. Robert" totally sounds like a Casino to me, either double-tracked or with two intertwining (sp?) parts carefully choreographed (again sp?) by John & George.
What about the intro of "I Want To Tell You?" Casino in the middle position? Strat on the neck? I don't know.

Kenny: I think that's a Strat all the way on the intro to 'I Want To Tell You'...it really sounds like their Strats had 5-position switches.

Fender did not have 5 way switches in their guitars until 1979!!!!!!!
I used to modify the stock 3 way switches all the time .
In stores you could drive players and store employees crazy knowing how to balance the switch inbetween the clicks ...This was TOP SECRET for a long time !
I don't hear the "#2 or #4 " settings on any Beatle Recording .
John ...compressed bridge pickup -Casino on Dr Robert ,Vox amp clean .
I will listen once again to the CD today and get back on this ...

I listened to 'Revolver' last night and I believe that Dr Robert is this ;
John plays his Casino -both pickups , Vox , compression and his is the dominant guitar ,
George plays his SG with the bridge pickup and a Color sound distortion/fuzz box ...it has this funny solid state tone , I can't dicribe it .
I tried to simulate it , drove my wife nuts last night trying to get the sound with my SG .
Paul is on the 4001 .
There may be a Strat on 'Revolver' , but at the moment I have no flat wound strings and don't feel like restringing my Strat just for fun .
Try Flats on a Strat and you WILL get lots of stock 1960's tones .
Buy the .013 to .056 set and throw away the .056 and install a plain .010 for the high E , this is what they were doing back then ...the start of Ernie Ball Strings idea !

absolutely, positively a strat on "I Want To Tell You" riff. On the old 3-way selectors you could get the pu selector to "stick" between and get two pu's. Sounds like IWTTY has it stuck between the neck and middle pu's. Did it all the time on my '64.

Other than that, it's a Gibson/Epi record, I'd say.
One lick no one has mentioned is the coolest one on the whole record: the break on Got To Get You Into My Life...

Kenny; I agree on that. Sounds like a Strat on the bridge p.u.. into an AC-30's VibraTrem channel. Has that Vox chime!
What.. nobody has talked about the She Said, She Said guitar tone that George got....comments on what he used. If my memory serves too George played bass as Paul wasn't even there during the recording.
