Cardboard Shipping Boxes

Sorry if this has been discussed here previously (I searched and found nothing), but does anyone know where I can get cardboard shipping boxes to ship a couple of my Ric 370-12s?

I'm looking for a Ric-sized box: roughly 17" x 5" x 48". UPS will cut a box to size, but it never seems packed quite right. Several shipping suppliers sell acoustic guitar shipping boxes, but they're really huge.

Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Steve, this has been a bugaboo of mine for years. I used to use cut-down surfboard cartons when I was in Southern Cal.

I've been using acoustic boxes and overpacking. Better safe than sorry.

I get mine from local music stores. They throw away their old cardboard shipping boxes the guitars come in. You can usually find one the right size.

Thanks Paul. If you've been having this same problem for years, I guess my question is answered. Looks like it's overpacked acoustic boxes, then.

ULine has a 20" x 8" x 50" box for $6.23, but you have to buy a minimum of 5. Not really a bad deal.

Ric cases fit almost perfectly in Fender boxes.

I wuz just gonna say that, Steve. Fender American Series boxes are great if you can find' em.

The GC here promised to save me a bunch of these, and when I showed up on schedule to pick 'em up, they never heard of me, had to ask their manager, etc. Then they tried to pass off some squier Tele boxes--way too small.

No thanks.

Ask Bob Belloff. Bob sent me a guitar without case packed wonderfully. I was nervous about it arriving safely, but it did take about 20 minutes to get it unwrapped.

Beautifully pristine.

That is a good place to check, the guitar shop. But the shops have a dearth of them these days as a lot of guys need boxes to ship on Ebay.

Bicycle boxes make GREAT shipping boxes for electric guitars.

Bobs right about the bike boxes. I had to ship a 381 once and it fit perfect in a bike box from Walmart. Not the adult bikes, but a bike made for a 3 year old. I mean it was dead perfect!
