Just a comment for no particular reason, but JH made a comment, I think, that 330s are the most popular model, followed by the 360. I could be very wrong! Anyway, I was looking at the "database" section here, and it appears that there are more versions of the 360 registered here than of 330 versions. Are the registrants of this website out of touch with everyone else? Just pondering...

I own two 330s and a 360 O.S., which is essentially a deluxe 330, so there's 3 pts. for the 330 club.

I've got a 360/6...thought about getting a 330 at first as well, but decided to go with the model Peter Buck prefers just as a means of worship

For my next Ric, I'll probably want a 12 string, in either the 370, 620 or 660 variety. Speaking of 660's, could I possibly order one with the "R" tailpiece instead of the Trapeze one? I'm not a fan of drilling holes into my guitars to make those types of adjustments after market.

Price could be one factor, especially when buying new. Most may identify the body shape of the 330 with The Beatles and the shape of George's 1963 360/12. In fact most British Invasion bands had the Rose Morris stuff which had the 330-style body. To many this style may 'look' more like a Rickenbacker than the round-top models.

When I can finally afford a Ricky (I'm mid-way through college right now), it'll be a Jetglow 330, like I've seen in some of the earliest R.E.M. pictures. (Was this one the one he smashed? Anyone know?)

Corey-- I have a feeling you'll be sorry getting that 'R' tailpiece, ESPECIALLY if you get a 12-string. It's difficult enough stringing a 6 through that 'R'. My recommendation is to get the custom drilled trapeze tailpiece that someone here at the forum makes. (I'm still new here and can't remember who it is that has those.) I'm gonna be ordering one for my own 360/12V64 very soon. This custom trapeze tailpiece has an individual hole drilled for each string.

The factory 'R' tailpiece looks way cool, but it's pretty impractical.

I have seen a lot of early REM pics, and I have never seen Peter Buck with a 330. I've never seen him with one at all, actually, although I can't imagine that he doesn't have one or more. Does anyone have a pic that they could post here or email to me? [email protected]. I'll be really embarassed if there's one already on this website!

I have seen the shot(s) of Pete Buck with a 330JG. Can't remember where.

I think Buck has a 330/12 or something like that, but the 330 you might have seen him playing probably belongs to Mitch Easter. I could be wrong, but I think Buck used Easter's Rics on tour etc. in the early days when he only really had his famous 360. The Ric Peter busted (after he threw it down on stage after getting hit in the face with a bag of peanuts) is probably one of his many Jetglow 360's. Replica or original, he sure had a right to be ******.

Good points on the "R" tailpiece....but since I don't string my own Rics, I go for the most boss look and leave the grumbling for my local guitar tech I do like the idea of the custom Trapeze tailpieces....they sound neat.

I've owned 330's and 360's, as well as a McGuinn 12/370. I agree with Jeffry- the 'R' tailpiece is a huge pain! I only have a '66 335 now, and I say go with an accent vibrato.

The "R" tailpiece can be a huge pain, indeed, but I use a little piece of masking tape to hold the string in place while I am changing them. I just stick the tape to the underside of the "R" and gently thread the string through the post, kink it, and wrap it up without disturbing the taped ball end.

I usually get my wife to help me with my 12 string. I have decided that, even with the masking tape, it takes an extra pair of hands to get it right. Maybe you single guys could use this as a pickup line. "Hey, babe. Wanna help me string my Rick?"

I ordered a whole bunch of different sets of strings from http://www.juststrings.com. The last set I installed were D'Angelico Soul Rock Strings(#500SRR). Guages: .009/.009, .011/.011, .016/.008, .024w/.011, .032w/.016, .042w/.024w. Anyone else ever try these (you all are probably stuck on Pyramids:-) I like them alot, especially the guage configuration.

I'm stuck on the Pyramids myself, but I'm making an effort to try pretty much any string once. They've all got their pros and cons.

Here's my story: A couple years ago, I got one of those CD-box-sized books for Christmas. It's by David Harrington. On page 10, Buck is pictured with a jetglow 330 (I'm assuming the dot markers mean a 330). I'd always assumed that it was Buck's because on the picture, you can clearly see that it's set up for a wound third string. Maybe it was on *extended* loan(?)

Now that I think about it, on page 30 of "Behind the Mask", Buck is pictured playing a JG 330 (again with wound third) live.

He's known to have owned a Rickenbacker since 1982, so I wouldn't think he'd need to borrow them, would he? Hmm...
