Just wondering if any of you guys saw this month's guitar world magazine review of the 660-6. I was shocked to see it.

Did they like it?

It looks like they did. It only got a half page review, while some ESP got a full page and their platinum design award. They commented on its retro vibe and its distinctive rhthym tones.

Which is a darned shame, because this guitar CUTS through the mix!
But the "mainstream" still perceives a Rckenbacker as:
1. The ultimate old guy snob nostalgia trip, and
2. An instrument with limited tonal options.
NONSENSE.

paul, when they sum up a review in that magazine, they give a list of pros and cons. Under cons they said almost exactly the same thing you did... that the 660 was tonally limited blah blah blah. You must have psychic abilities. I think that Guitar World's idea of the "mainstream" is limited to 16 year old Napalm Death and Slayer fans.

Tried to pick one up on my lunch hour today. Out of stock.
This is the same BS we've always heard about Rickenbackers, so I'm not psychic, just a parrot.
And a Les Paul is that flexible sonically?

They said that you will either love the 660 or it will leave you longing to get back to your Les Paul and Marshall. My other electric is a PRS McCarty, which is almost an exact copy of a vintage Les Paul. In my opinion, my 660 is every bit as versatile as the PRS, but much more articulate and less muddy sounding.

BTW, I'm 26 years old. Am I old enough to have an ultimate old guy nostalgia trip? If I am then go ahead and sign me up!

My live rig is Les Paul/Marshall, and I love my 660. What does that make me? Not part of the "Guitar World"? Dang....
