I disassembled and wetsanded the front/edges today of the body and headstock. I'm not going to paint the back/neck ....I'll just blend the edge of the new paint at the rear body corner and it should be seemless. I wanted to get it masked off today but a bird flew through my garage window so I'll have to put off the masking/paint until tomorrow....(how the heck does a bird fly through a white painted garage window?)

At this point you could just touch up the damage, wetsand and buff. That would fix it without a repaint.

That sounds great but I'd still have a problem getting the black to match in my "chip".....that's why I'm doing this. I should have the masking done tonight and it should be finished except for wetsanding tomorrow so we'll see if the black flames are subtle enough with no pinstriping or highlights.

That's funny Jeff - I thought about doing that to a red 330 once...

the 2000 series bass is kinda plain and homely ... so I spiced it up ...

This is a case I could have seen putting a sticker on it if the ding was driving you nuts, instead of re-finishing the whole thing. Ouch! That was a very unfortunate ding! Looking forward to seeing how it comes out...

While your're at it, why not break out the bandsaw and turn her into a frog foot headstock?!

Why refinish this one for a small ding??? won't the refin decrease the value more than a ding? Black is easy to touch up with a marker or black paint ...

I explained it in another thread but basically the ding/chip was on the front of the upper horn and after touching it up/wetsanding/polishing it was still pretty visable (to me anyway) and it bugged me like my own personal Tell Tale Heart. Amazing how many shades of black there are.

The main reason for me to refinish it is because I am a spaz . I am also well aware of the decrease in value but I'm keeping it so I'm not too concerned about that.

IM kinda with jeff here, my prized white 4003 fell onto a cymbal stand once and the side of the neck chipped slightly. oh well! who cares!

If the chip was on the edge or on the headstock I probably would have dealt with it either left alone or with a repair but where it was, to me, was unacceptable and I'm not really a sticker kinda guy (accept on a pickguard perhaps).

Did you ding it on purpose?! You sure have all your ducks in a row for the refinish and paint scheme, and in very little time! Looks great.
