I'm pickled tink with the new pickguard I got from Tony at Pickguardian. I went with the "vintage gold" (coppery gold backpainted on clear Lucite) and went with the optional "signature edition." I also had Tony repaint my TRC with the same gold color. I think the combination looks great on Montezuma brown. Also got vintage knobs from Tony. I'll be bringing this bass to Columbus. The light area on the top of the bass is reflection from the nearby sofa, sorry.

I think it would look even better with oven knobs.

Hi Paul!
Really a great looking instrument! Probably 2004 Vintage!!!
BTW: How different does the neck toaster-PU sound compared to the usual stock PU? I wish I could join at Columbus, but it's just a bit too far from here for a short trip.
So enjoy the Confluence Meeting!
Best regards from Germany
Peter

Paul, did they use your signature on your signature model?

Congrats on a very nice bass!!

To answer questions above:
I thought about the TV knobs, but don't like 'em.
Yes, 2004 bought new from Northcoast Music (right here in town).
I don't currently have a Rick with the highgain in the neck position, so can't really compare. I don't think my ear is sophisticated enough to tell the difference anyway. I like the "vintage" look of the toaster.
The signature thingie with Pickguardian is your own signature. You download a pdf form with three signature blocks on it. You sign all three, send it in (with a check!) and you or Tony pick the best one. He has a guy that processes the signature into a flopped image and this is (I think) made into a wax transfer which is applied to the back of the clear Lucite pickguard, along with the "signature edition" wording. Then he backpaints the whole thing with gold (or white or -- ?), and there you have it. In the case of the TRC, he paints the whole thing gold, then somehow paints the raised logo black again.
By the way, Tony will be in Columbus -- he lives there!

Very nice looking, and the signature "special edition" is a nice concept by Tony.

That looks really nice, Paul. I too am a huge fan of the gold plastic. I have a Jetglo v63 that I put gold plastic on a few years ago. I have another Rick that I'm considering gold plastic for as well. Its nice to see a job well done and that's what Tony does.
But about those TV knobs...I thought they would be fun so I bought a set for my v63. As it turned out, the TV knobs were so big that they'd hit each other when rotated. Obviously, this was unacceptable so I switched back to the original vintage knobs. I think the guitars they were intended for had more space between the knobs.

Paul: Just a gorgeous bass. Montezuma Brown, just seems so right for Rickenbackers and the gold guard really accents the toaster and the knobs.
A little reflection can only accentuate the magic of this color combination. I prefer this to the more sterile photos that are sometimes shot to limit or remove natural light. Afterall, any true vision should shed a little light on the subject, don't you think.

I love gold plastic on Ricks - wish that was a factory option for basses! I have a 4004Cii on order and I've always felt that a gold TRC would look cool.

Simply gorgeous. It would have been nice as an original option.

But that would make it less unique. I'd prefer to have Tony make them!
