Yes, well, the thread title did catch my eye. I have an '84 4001SLH that I did a MMT paintjob to. I used teal instead of the silver/grey Paul used just 'cause I like it better, but otherwise I tried to get as close as I could. Oh, and mine was originally MG so I had to give it a nice FG finish then ruin it
I would suggest the Anthology videos and the MMT LP(not CD) booklet for the best shots of the bass.

Alan, you should go for it. I had to prep myself with a few Shiner Bocks
Have you thought about how you'll deal with the binding on your 4003? Just paint over it? What finish is it?

Mines a fireglo Ronn, apparently Paul had to prep himself too with a few cans as well as substances he was on at the time lol
I want to get it pretty near the same, as for the binding Im thinking of masking it off just above the bridge the same as you have done and respraying it darker red and all around the bottom end till I Hit the white area on the lower horn, maybe will need 2 coats of the dark red... well see

its pretty much all I can do really to get rid of the binding lol

Luckily Im a painter and decorater lol

Alan...glaucoma can really mess up the execution of a well intentioned and carefully worked out design...I recommend taking all possible precautions against such an obstacle...
Get plenty of ventilation, as well.
