WHelp wiring a HB for split coil
I am interested in wiring a RIC humbucker in the bridge position ( single coil VP in the neck) for split coil use so I can get some other tones out of a 620. Anyone have a schematic to do this? Thanks.

Use an on-off switch between the black and clear wire (these are soldered together and isolated) to the red or to the blue. This will short out one winding and permit the other to operate. You will have to play with which one (red or blue) with both pickups (bridge and neck) selected to determine which coil to leave operational. If the wrong coil is chosen you will lose bottom end with both pickups selected. If it looses bottom end with both pickups selected when in humbucking mode the switch the red and blue wire positions or those on the single coil pickup.
You can also wire these series-single-parallel but it is much more involved. Here is a schematic for that, but you will need to covert the wire colors as follows. Rick HB color first then as on the print. Once again though this may select the wrong coil to match the other pickup. In that case you use the second schematic. The black wire going to the vol pot in this diagram would go to your selector switch. Again if it looses bottom end with both pickups selected when in humbucking mode the switch wire positions on the single coil pickup. I hope this makes sense to you.

Oh I forgot. No I have not done this with a Rick but I have used the first schematic on a home built guitar with HB pickups along with a phasing switch and a four way selector switch. It is very worth while in my opinion. I am not sure how it will sound with Rick pickups. Maybe you can wire it so the switch is not mounted, just to try it before drilling a hole in your pick guard or use a push pull pot for series/split or series/parallel only. A second push pull pot could be used for a phasing switch if you have any interest in that. Series is the normal HB wiring. Parallel sounds close to single (split) but is quieter with a little less detail or definition. If you near SE Michigan your welcome to hear what I've got.

I wired my 4004L hb1 with a switch like the one pictured above ... In one position it was series, in the next position it was parallel, and in the third position it was single coil ... it was cool except the only one that sounded good on the bass was series ... which is the way it comes wired from the factory ...
here's an easier mod ... try a 1000k ohm volume pot on that guitar ... this will give it a wide open sound with more treble and still keep the lows and mids ...
