What can you tell me about this one? Serialnumber is XA008, so it´s from 1984.
I have a 4001 1975, and loves it, but I want to by my second bass.
Should I go for it?

Looks like an all black S or am I just not seeing the trim?, I'd snap it right up. How much? Is the truss rod cover also black? if it has trim is it black?
It's got the old-style truss rods in it.

Bob, how can it be an S with those fret markers?
I also thought the split pickguard was pre 80's but what do I know. Image

I had an '82 4003S with the split pickguard. That one is a 4003, not an S. (inlay gives it away)

I'd ask for better pics. I agree with Jeff, it looks like paint chipping off of the binding. Also, wasnt the extra 2 screws holding the rear of the bridge down an 80's thing?

My mistake I didn't even notice the triangles, it also has Grovers on it this is the latest one I've sen them on, it is an 84 not a 75. They used the split pickguards from 1980 to 1985 on 4003's only. Does it have white binding on the body or black Frode? Is it white covered or just the picture, it looks like a little white is peeking out in the second picture. It has white binding on the neck right? The paint on the headstock looks original to me.

I'd get it if it is decent shape they didn't make many black/black basses. I've never seen one with a two piece pickguard although I'm sure they are out there and also I'm sure the pickguard is much closer to the color of the guitar in person. Grovers are also pretty rare and worth money.

Hi. I´ve just bought it. Congratulations to me:-). It is in great condition.
When I takes it out in the sun, the color looks dark green and not black. Could the black color fade that much????

I would think it was the clear coat on top of the jetglo, try a good polish see what that does, if it's the clear coat it probably won't do anything but it is worth a try.

I tried it now, but it still looks dark green to me compared to the black pickguard. But it doesn´t look bad.
