You'd sure think that someone that fancies themselves as being in the business would know that these are TRUSS rod covers, not TRUST rod.

Out of curiousity, if I sent a white truss rod cover into Rickenbacker, would they give me a gold one if I asked?

Nick: Provided that the truss rod cover you send in is genuine and provided you are willing to purchase a new one, I see no reason why RIC wouldn't exchange it for you.
You should pose this question to
[email protected].

Nick, give customer service a message about this, but I'm pretty sure they operate the way Peter suggests. I've heard people complain about not being able to get a TRC from RIC without one to "trade in". Pretty sure there's a charge for the new one, so it's not really a trade in.
The way JH explains it, it is a part of a small company protecting one of it's important assets: image.

I wish other companies would guard their image and copyright designs so well. You can find thousands of Fender and Gibson copies that are pure junk. Then again I've seen a few Fenders that WERE junk, too! Inconsistant quality control is another problem with multinational, multi continental companies.
Just another reason why I own a Rickenbacker.
