Used toasters - what did I find?

I was at a guitar show today, and a small dealer had a pair of used toasters. They both tested OK at around 7.2 K, so I dickered a bit and took them home.

I haven't removed the covers, but there appears to be a number molded on the bottom of each (partially obscured by the baseplate) - "VP-31" or "VP-51".

Are these run-of-the-mill reissue toasters like I think?

Ken: They are very close to the scatterwound toasters as far as the K Ohm rating goes. I have not noticed the VP coding on any I have seen, but it would make sense. As always, a photo or two wouldn't hurt.

OK, I just had to pop one open to resolder it - I damaged it on the way home. ($!&$@!) The marking on the bottom is "VP-31".

I wonder if someone already unwound these - there's no tape around the bobbin except for a small piece of paper tape protecting the wire leading to the edge terminal.

With my good meter, one pickup measures 7.2 K, the other 7.5. Which is preferable for which position? I'm guessing 7.2 K in the neck, 7.5 K in the bridge.

I've been wanting to try toasters in my Dakota, and these came along! I like the HBs, but toasters have *such* an allure.

These are modern toasters that have likely been unwound.

He originally wanted $45 each, but couldn't take plastic. It was all the cash I could scrape up, and he cheerfully took it. A nice guy!

Wow. $65 for both!!?!! My brother just paid $75 and $95 for two current toasters (to replace the high gains on his 360-12), $170 total. He feels like he did allright. I'm not going to tell him about the deal you got.
