So, anyway...the thread on rediscovering vinyl and Jeff Rath's comment about the covers got me remembering some of my favorites:
Close To The Edge (Yes)
Bitches' Brew (Miles Davis)
Overnight Sensation (F. Zappa)
Acquiring The Taste (Gentle Giant)
plus...that 'Playin' and singin' fer you the following...' cover R. Crumb did for Big Brother and Janis
..and many more. A few of your favorites?

Love those Roger Dean Yes covers.... a couple of other favourites are Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick (the full newspaper version), and Man's Be Good To Yourself, which has a big foldout illustrated family tree of the band.
Also, the picture on Maria Muldaur's Waitress In A Donut Shop still makes me go weak at the knees....
I'm dating myself, aren't I

Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Yes - Relayer
UFO - Force It & Obsession
Badfinger - ***
Wings - Band On The Run
Rod Stewart - Sing It Again, Rod (the original shaped like a whiskey glass)
Beatles - Abbey Road
Stones - Through The Past Darkly
And one I saw back in the 70s that I never bought, but I still remember it. It was called "Do They Hurt?" by a band named Brand X. As I recall, it had an alligator looking at a guy wearing alligator shoes. To my teenage male mind, that was hilarious!

Brand X. Wasn't that the band that Phil Collins was doing before Genesis? I know someone who has an album or two from them. Probably the same one you saw, Harley.

Sure was, Robert.
They are sort of still going. It's very hard stuff to get over here - import only. They did a live album called 'Livestock' and I loved it. Some b****rd pinched it when I had a party a few years ago.
I'm pretty sure if you google it you'll find an official site (or at least a fan one).

Phil Collins was in Brand X *during* Genesis, not before or after. Their first album, Unorthodox Behaviour, is a fusion masterpiece that no-one knows about - Percy Jones, a Welsh Wizard on a fretless Wal is a standout, and it demonstrates what a truly superb drummer Collins is.
