Don't notice difference with .0047 cap

Post by strangebrew »

Hi, I have a 360v64/12. I unwound the pickups to 7.4 k ohms, huge difference, sounds great! And I put the .0047 mf polypropylene cap in the bridge pickup circuit to create the high pass filter(using aligator clips so I could experiment. I'm an electrical engineer, so I know what this cap is supposed to do, but I can not really hear a difference. Is there a test that exaggerates the effect. I have round wound strings on, and I saw something in the archives where Mark says that when RIC went to round wound they removed the cap. So, are you saying that I will not notice the difference with the round wounds. I did try a .0033 and began to notice the effect. I may go to flat wounds because they say there is more jingle jangle. Will the .0047 cap make the difference then? Also, where can I get those light green .0047 mf polypropylene caps? They are a better size than I have. Thanks

you should hear the sound difference no matter what string type or gauge you use.

I buy lots of caps from Mouser .
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
