Anyone here try this? Seems like it could be a pretty versatile setup - that warm humbucker sound in the neck, with the bite of a hi-gain in the bridge.

I agree - it is a versatile setup. In fact, what you're proposing is the original 4001 premise: a neck pickup assigned to bass and a bridge pickup assigned to treble, right?

Let me re-phrase that: a neck pickup assigned to thumping bass and a bridge pickup assigned to crackling treble - the distinctive Rickenbacker tone, right?

I have the HB in the neck position of my 4001 project and a horseshoe in the bridge position. would love to own 1000 basses with that set up. The tonal range is unmatched IMO.

I tried 4004 pickups on a 4001 ... I prefered the single coils ...

Marc's 4001p has a great voice to go along with the eye candy. Very unique indeed.
