425V63 opinions

This is my first post so hello all.

I recently bought a 650 Atlantis which has rapidly become my favourite guitar and have a Colorado being delivered tomorrow Image
I really like the wide neck on these guitars (I struggle a bit with the usual narrow neck) plus they sound great and look good too! Might be the possibily of a Dakota and a 660 within the next month hopefully!

Does the 425V63 have the narrow neck? Has anyone played or owned one and could give me their opinion on this guitar? I know where there is one for sale mail order, but there is no chance of trying one first as you don't see many ricks in the UK shops Image So I'd appreciate as much info as possible to help me decide whether to get it or not.

I searched the forums first, but couldn't find much on the guitar! Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve.

Just like to add that the guitars are all used ones. Does anyone know any dealers in the UK that carry new ones. Unfortunately new Rickenbackers in guitar shops in the UK are about as common as rocking horse poo!

Steve, Welcome to the forum. The 425 should have the narrow neck. Can you post some pics of the Atlantis and Colorado?

Steve, I used to have a burgundyglo 425v63 and it had a great slim neck on it. Here's a pic:

Ken, I'll try too once I work out how to do it.

John, the 425 is the same as yours. The burgundy on the one I'm thinking of getting looks darker, but I think that's just the picture quality.
What did you think of the guitar, John?

This is the Colorado, it's being delivered tomorrow. This one of the pics the seller sent me. It's in midnight blue. I hope it looks as good in the flesh as it does in the pic!

Hope this works!

Atlantis. Somewhere along the line someone changed the chrome scratchplate for the black one. Pics are not very good, I'll try and take some better ones. I'm **** at photograhpy!

Mike Smith at RicsRus is IMHO the best UK/European source for NOS & mint ric guitars. He has excellent selection, is an honest business man and has a handle on the challenges of getting rics in Europe.

Steve: It is definitely the picture quality. Look at the difference in the appearance of burgundyglo on the body versus the neck, which appears much darker, in this photo.

On the subject of buying a Ric in the UK, you could always take a trundle round the music shops in and around Denmark St in London. But only if you want a really, really good laugh at the ridiculous prices...I was down there a couple of weeks back and there were a few dotted around, mostly 330/360s, and the odd bass.

I bought my 620/12 off eBay, and there are a couple of UK sellers on there with a regular supply of new, or mint, Rics at half-reasonable prices (i.e. under £1000). One is RicsRUs, as mentioned, the other is Rickysounds, whose eBay shop is here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RickySounds-Specialising-since-73_W0QQssPageNameZl2QQtZkm

Whether you'll find anything as esoteric as a 425v63 in the UK is questionable, however...

Hope that helps

Thanks Mike. I've never been to Denmark St, but everyone seems to say the same thing. If I'm ever down that way I probably will have a look, as you say, for a laugh Image Mind you it wouldn't be funny if I saw a guitar I really wanted going for a daft price!

I'll check out RicsRUs!

Steve,

My 425V63 was a great guitar - had a great neck and was really comfortable to play. I never actually gigged it though.

Yes - never buy anything from Denmark Street - rip-off city ! The most expensive place for Rics is a shop called Music Ground. They usually have some interesting guitars but save yourself a few hundred quid and go to Mike Smith at Rics R Us.

By the way, I bought my 425V63 in a shop in Colchester. I was out shopping with my wife and I managed to escape for half an hour so I decided to have a look round one of the local music shops. There, hanging on the wall, was a brand spanking new Burgundy 425V63 marked up at just £695. I had to have it. The guy in the shop didn't know much about the guitar and let me have it for £600 ! Bargain ! Still got in trouble with the wife though !!

Since then I've subsequently sold it (the 425, not the wife!) and bought a 350V63.
