When It Rains It Pours Vintage 4001s - Price Check

It's not fair... Not only am I "sampling" a '72 JG that's probably in 7.0 condition (out of 10), I've just been offered a '69 MG in about 9.75 condition.

The '69 has a price tag of $3,500 CDN$ or $2,800 US$. But it's in PHENOMENAL shape. Is that a fair price?

Or, at the price am I better off holding out for a '68 with a horseshoe (if it ever arises)?

The '69 sounds very interesting given the price you've quoted...I would definitely check it out, post some pics if you can. If it is clean and all there, it's worth it IMHO.

'69's are very rare, from what I know. haven't seen many of them. If you CAN do it, it isn't going to go DOWN in price over the years, I'll tell you that! If the pickups are intact, it's worth it, definitely. '68's have gone for $6,500 or more.

It appears to have a later tailpiece on it. Has anything else been changed?

I thought the bridge might not be original. It's hard to see if there's a split there...
David, to find a 60's Ric bass is rare, but to find one in that condition is another thing altogether. Looks like the original polishing cloth in the top pic.
My 68 is a 9.5 bass and there are probably no more than a handful left in this condition worldwide.
$2.8K is a steal....My bass is insured at $10,000, because I know it's very unlikely I'll ever find another in this condition...
Buy it...NOW!

No 'split' and it has extra screw holes. Not a huge deal if the rest of the bass is original.

Yes the tailpiece is definitely a later replacement....One tuner shaft is not like the others, I'd check those out pretty good.

Anyway, look it over REAL good(I'd look at the guts too), and get back with us about what you have issues with...
