I recently bought a 360/12.

After reading all the posts here and emailing M. Arnquist I got a 12 saddle bridge and a new nut installed on my 12 string. Now it plays properly but.....

The pickups, especially the bridge pu is off center. It still works, although it sure looks a bit goofy.

I am scared to have the pu moved as I am guessing that would mean lots of wood being cut or routed out.

What gives here? Does RIC just eyeball it?

John: Rickenbacker has been making instruments for 70 years and they have consistently made quality instruments. They, as in all companies, gain their reputation with each and every instrument that leaves the factory. I have never been on the factory floor and as such I am not sure of how RIC determines the placement of their pickups. Perhaps Mr. John Hall will be able to speak to this question. Having said that, of the thousands of instruments made, there are bound to be some that do not meet the expectations of owners that may indeed need further adjustments.

You have asked an empirical question. Perhaps those who have the time will be able to send in measurements with regard to pickup alignment on their guitars. No one is perfect. In your case, I can see no reason why you could not have the necessary adjustments made to your pickup alignment.

In that case, my bridge was 1/4" too far toward the bass side and 1/8" too close to the nut.
