What Compressor is Best?

I understand that the early Byrds used a MXR DynaComp on their 6 and 12 string Ricks. Will this compressor cut it on a 4003 bass or should I go with one intended for a bass?

Any suggestions for a good compressor and where to place in the signal line? Should I buy two for Ric-O-Sound? Or one after the PU mix?

Here's what I'm planning so far: Ric-O-Sound output, neck PU clean mixed with bridge PU (.0047uF capped) through warm OD/distortion. Mix to compressor to mono amp. input. Mix blend to vary Ric-O-Grind?

No D.I.: I'm not recording yet and have no board.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Try the SansAmp Bass Compactor, it should be the best...

FWIW, the "early" Byrds could not have used MXR
devices, as this company was not around till the
mid 70s or thereabouts, unless, of course, and I have no way of knowing this, that MXRs' founders were quietly making stomp boxes at an earlier date.

Don, My mistake. Thanks for clarifying. I read/misread the MXR information on a Swedish page which seems no longer available in English: http://www.etek.chalmers.se/~e8bohm/pedal/dynacomp.html

Marcello, thanks for the info.
