Lewis Lustman's Meeting George story was posted on NO REPLY today. It certainly speaks to the gentle nature of George.

I hope there's still a few more folks like George out there in the music biz.

Great story ....just goes to show you that "real people " can be famous and not let it get to their heads.
I have met plenty of 'stars' that are full of themselves , they are not fun to work for .They generally are so invloved with how "Cool" they are they don't care to deal with what you do for them and whether or not they have communicated their desires fully .
I do on the other hand have plenty of 'well knowns that I will give special handling to (to remove them from the 'crowd' and these guys love to get the attention and the care .I appreciate them ...and they me .
I never got to meet George , but suppect the Threatles are all regular guys .I know that John could be a handfull sometimes .But he too would return to 'regular guy' status given a moment.

Several Seattle bands ........wow !!!! can you say ...bicycle training wheels on the HUGE heads!

Just on a point of personal interest for me..since you're in the Seattle area, you haven't ever dealt with Peter Buck, have you?

Never met the man .I know they record at "Bad Animals" Studio , frequently .This is Ann and Nancy Wilson's studio ...world class .


the REM guys are seen around town from time to time .......I don't know who works on their gear.
The other 'big ' shop does not .

I think they do their own work or one of the crew does it for them .
I don't think Peter is all that particular ....just make it work , same for Mike .

As far as I know, Peter's guitar tech is called "Microwave"...but I have no idea who he is. I think he's listed on some R.E.M. record liner notes. Part of the crew, I guess.

I'm not from Seattle (or Athens), but I met Peter Buck once, sort of. My friend's band was opening for Mudhoney (talk about nice, down-to-earth, no ego guys! Steve Turner, especially, being a record collector, is super respectful of the barely-known musicians he's a fan of) in San Francisco, and after the show, a bunch of us were hanging out in their (my friends' band, not Mudhoney) dressing room. There was also this short, older guy in the room that nobody knew ... I was chatting with my friends the whole time, but the girl I was there with wound up talking with this other guy (since she didn't really know my friends). After we left, she asked me, "so do you know who that was?" It was Peter Buck, and apparently she had a nice conversation with him, so he's obviously a nice (if shy!) guy.
